A small redesign
Over the past month, Calculator Tab has had more visitors, than over the entire past year. This has not only made me happy, but also made me remember, that there is still a lot I’ve been wanting to change.
For one thing, I wanted to get rid of the forum, as it made any potential communication with the visitors of the site cumbersome, due to the fact that registration was required to post anything. That is why I took the forum down and installed a blog instead.
And second, I have completely rewritten the script that drives the calculator, in order to make future improvements and additions to the functionality easier to implement. As I go on writing the new version, I would like to let the users of the calculator in on the latest developments and see if they have any ideas on how I could do it better. So from now on, on the “Test Drive” page, you can see the current stage of development and if you feel like it, also influence the next version of Calculator Tab with your feedback.

Thanks Marek for creating this calculator, it is the best one I have found on the web so far and it also looks really cool.

Hello Jack,
thank you for your compliment on the calculator. I also wish I would make more money from this website, but will try to make it better nonetheless.

Hello Danny,
I’m sorry that the calculator does not work for you. It’s strange, that you can see the calculator, but cannot press the buttons. If you let me know what your operating system, your browser and your flash version is, I will look into it.
The server this site is hosted on, is based in Germany (and by the way, so am I). This is why your time does not correspond to the time you see beside your comment. Since the visitors to this site come from all over the world, I have arbitrarily set the time zone of the blog to my time zone.

good job.nice and easy for a old timer to use.I tried 5 others but couldn,t make head or tail of them, the memory thingy is very handy for me as i have to work out the circumference of lots of small circles and then divide them up for designs on my wood turning projects.
Thanks Marek for a good job.

This calculator helps so much! I am wondering if you could add a button just for percent, and under the golden ratio, add the value of pi.
Thanks!

Hello Addie,
there already is a button for pi. It is on the left tab labeled with “f” for functions and is the 3rd button from the left in the bottom row.
If the two buttons for percent on the bottom tab don’t suite your needs, you might want to try the percent button on the test drive page. Using it you can make calculations like 50 + 10%.

A nice little tool! It certainly beats firing up Excel every time I want to a simple calculation.
However, there seems to be a bug in the calculation of trigonometric functions. I input 60, click the left hand ‘f’ button and then click ‘sin’ I get ’0undefined866….’. Same error for ‘cos’ and ‘tan’.
I’m running Firefox 3.5.7 under Windows XP.

Hello Mike,
I’m glad you find the calculator useful. The problem you report is strange – I have not been able to recreate it. I suspect the storage of your saved settings and numbers has become corrupted. If you don’t mind losing your saved numbers and settings, you might try deleting your settings under the options (o) tab. If you don’t want to lose your saved settings and numbers, you might also try to change your decimal separator, also under the options tab. Please write me an email at marek@calculator-tab.com about whether this has worked for you.

I love this calculator, but i think it needs a fraction button. A fraction button would be great!
Thanks!

Hello! It’s me again. I was just wondering why you hadn’t replied to my first comment? I have been using this for homework when I forget my calculator at school. It is great, but once again I think it needs a fraction button.
Thanks again!

Hello Alli,
please excuse my late reply. I’ve been busy working, to be able to finance my work on this and other projects.
A fractions button is a good idea. However, to be able to use the calculator as a fractions calculator there would be a lot more needed than a fractions button. I would also have to figure out a way to input fractions and a way to display the result in fractions. This might be best done with a new tab. I will put this feature on the wish list and try to realize it next time I work on the calculator.
In the mean time, you might try searching for an online fractions calculator with a search engine. There are few usable ones out there.
